EVERYDAY CARE
Keep the Good Years Coming.
Regular care and periodic professional cleaning can help rugs last for decades, and well-made handmade rugs for generations. Through The Rug Dealer’s Daughter and Tucson Rug Cleaning Co., we understand rugs from purchase to preservation. Here are a few simple ways to help yours last.
Vacuum regularly
Regular vacuuming removes dirt and grit before it becomes embedded in the rug. Most sound, everyday rugs can be vacuumed normally. Use extra care with very old, thin, worn or damaged rugs, and avoid running a rotating brush over fringe.
Rotate your rug
Rotate your rug periodically to distribute foot traffic and sun exposure more evenly. This is especially helpful in Tucson, where strong sunlight can cause uneven fading.
Use a good rug pad
A quality pad helps prevent slipping, adds cushioning and reduces stress on both your rug and the floor beneath it.
Blot, don’t scrub
For spills, use a clean, absorbent towel and blot rather than scrub. Be careful with household stain removers and cleaning remedies. Different fibers and dyes can react very differently to chemicals.
SPILLS, PETS & REAL LIFE
Things Happen.
A knocked-over drink or pet accident doesn’t necessarily mean your rug is ruined. Acting quickly and knowing what not to do can make a big difference.
Pet urine can travel beneath the surface and into a rug’s foundation, causing odor, staining and eventually damage if left untreated. Surface cleaners and fragrances may mask the problem without actually removing it.
For significant spills, pet accidents or anything you’re unsure about, ask us before experimenting with cleaners.
PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
Know When to Call in the Pros.
Rugs hide dirt well. Even with regular vacuuming, fine soil builds up below the surface.
Plan on professional cleaning every 2–3 years for high-traffic rugs and 3–4 years for quieter spaces. Pets, children and spills may call for more frequent cleaning.
Our sister company, Tucson Rug Cleaning Co., evaluates each rug’s materials and condition at its dedicated cleaning facility.
Because the cleaning process should fit the rug, not the other way around.
